"Dogs are not our whole lives, but they make our lives whole."

My name is Brittany and I'm a mother of four, 25 to 10 years old. I'm married to the love of my life. I'm a doula, a foster parent, a professional hair braider, and a hobby doodle breeder. We live in the beautiful foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the Northern California town of Auburn.

Why are we breeding Cavapoos? I grew up always having dogs and they were the center of my life. I love to travel, hike, and snuggle with them; I love them to be my constant companion. My senior portrait even had my dog in it with me!
Nine years ago I was pregnant with my youngest daughter and I was the sickest I have ever been in my life. It turns out that I had a brain tumor and it laid me out! It was a very lonely and isolating time, even though I have such a wonderful support system. One thing that brought me comfort was our Labradoodle Kipper. He followed me to every room I entered and laid down with me. He cheered me up when I was sad and gave me comfort when I needed it. He wasn't a certified therapy dog, but he did the job better than any one I could have found.

That recovery took a long time and sadly, Kipper is no longer with us. However, this last year I was laid up again, this time with tumors in my stomach. I could hardly move after the surgery and felt the familiar isolating feelings. But my dogs were always there to cuddle me and show me that I was needed and not alone. It's easy to fall into depression when you've been in bed for weeks on end, but dogs still need to be cared for. Once I was able to get out of bed, I slowly started to care for my animals again. They gave me motivation, purpose and helped me to feel like I was contributing to our family.

I want others to be able to have this gift. My Cavaliers are soul seers. They look through your eyes right into your heart. They are companions that bring comfort! That being said, I believe that by combining them with a miniature poodle we can select for these wonderful attributes and by careful breeding suppress some of the less desirable genetic traits of the Cavalier.

Spaniels love to roam and can be selective listeners. Poodles are generally regarded as the second most intelligent breed, right behind the Border Collie. This makes them easier to train and we like dogs that are easy to train! I also love cuddling my dogs on my couch or bed and love not getting hair everywhere. The Cavalier coat is beautiful, but they can shed quite a lot. By introducing the poodle, we get a varied Cavapoo coat that can be straight, wavy, or curly; the result is generally lower to non-shedding and more hypoallergenic. Inheriting from both parent breeds, Cavapoos are loyal companions that always want to be with you and are eager to please.

At Gold Country Doodles we start ENS/ESI after 72 hours, gently changing their environments to help them become empowered and compliant puppies so that YOU will have an easier time when it comes to training. We want our customers and our puppies to be happy and do an evaluation on every puppy at 7 weeks to make sure that the right puppy is placed with the right family. We want to share the love and healing that a dog can bring to a family, empowering people to be loving care-takers and to feel loved in return. As a doula, it is so important to me for people to feel peace and I believe that dogs can assist in this.
